On June 30, 2023 (nee Biel) Age 100.
Resident of Clarksboro, formerly of Cinnaminson and South Camden. Wife of the late Kazimierz Mojta for 52 years. Loving mother of Barbara (the late Brian) Bassett. Proud Babci of Bernadette (Jamie) Mitchell, Benjamin Bassett, and great-grandchildren Jane and James Mitchell. Survived by numerous nephews, nieces, grandnephews, and grandnieces. Predeceased by brother Joseph Biel, sisters Jean Thomson, Phyllis Bunkowski, and Florence Purzycki.
Helen was a first generation Polish American, growing up in South Camden. She attended St. Joseph's Grammar School and Camden Catholic High School. As a young person, she was active in St. Joseph's Church, including president of the Blessed Virgin Mary Sodality. During World War II, she was a USO volunteer. Helen was a secretary and homemaker. She loved arts and crafts, especially sewing and crocheting. She was also an amazing cook and baker, hosting many family dinners. For her daughter's birthday parties, she would go all out, including a themed cake and pinata. This carried over to her grandchildren's parties. Bernadette, Ben, Jane, and James were the lights of her life. Over the years, Helen was a faithful benefactor and volunteer for the Little Servant Sisters of Cherry Hill. She enjoyed spending time in Cape May, visiting friends, chasing birds with her daughter, and playing cards with the family. Helen recently celebrated her 100th Birthday with not one but four parties, including a surprise party with her entire family.
Relatives and friends are invited to celebrate her life on Saturday, July 8th from 9:00- 10:00 AM at the Ciechanowski Funeral Home, 400 White Horse Pike, Oaklyn, NJ 08107. Mass of Christian Burial will follow 11:00 AM at St. Joseph's Church, 1010 Liberty Street, Camden, NJ 08104. Interment at St. Joseph's Cemetery, Chews Landing.
